I hope that in the coming months that many of the "souls" that arrived on the "Branken Moor" will find their rightful place in "YOUR" family, and that in placing this Passenger List here I will be successful in reuniting some, and hopefully all, into your families.

My "soul" on the Branken Moor is Maria Carden Abbott (Abbot).  I am fortunate in that I have been able to trace the Carden line back to the Cardens at Templemore and Barnane in Tipperary Ireland.

I was also successful during 1996 in making contact with Arthur Carden who has been researching the Carden one name study of England and Ireland and will shortly release a book on these families, which will include my own contributions.  A great deal of research over many years has gone into tracing this line back to Sir John (or Richard) de Cawarden born 1375 (pronounced Carden) in England and research on these families, is still ongoing.

I have so far, had no success in tracing the Abbot (Abbott) line of this family.
The father of Maria Carden Abbot was William Abbot a gardener, who may have been employed at Barnane, the family home of the Cardens of Barnane.  William Abbot  married Elizabeth Carden the daughter of Nicholas Carden Esq, who was the resident landowner, at Jockey Hall, until his death in 1815.  It is here, from when she was born, that Maria lived until she sailed to the far off shores to a new and unknown  life in Australia.
