An Introduction

When I began my research into the discovery of gold in Western Australia I started with information available at theEastern Goldfields Historical Society. This also included work done by the late Rex Mitchell. Over the three years of my research I amassed a considerable amount of information.

However, many of the articles which had been published were not original material. They were the old stories, told and re-told in each author's own words. This had caused many discrepancies and some misinterpretations.

It became apparent to me that there was a need to gather together all the original material and bring it together in one volume.

For this book I have used wherever possible, the original documents, reports and newspapers and in order to maintain their accuracy I have quoted them verbatim.

This book has now been published to help "set the record straight" and to commemorate the centenary of the registration of the find by Paddy Hannan that became the great city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder on the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia.
